Abstract
ion of 0.65% NaCl solution and completed at 0.38%. Splenectomy was performed in 13 with concomitant cholecystectomy in 6 out of 13, indication of which was frequent transfusions due to severe hemolysis, multiple gall stones or cholecystitis. After splenectomy, most patients were treated with prophylactic penicllin and vaccinated against Pneumococcus and Hemophilus influenzae. It is important to select the proper time of splenectomy to prevent complications such as gall stones and hemolytic crisis. After splenectomy, clinical and laboratory findings improved. Prophylactic antibiotics and vaccination can prevent severe infections after splenectomy. It is concluded that proper time of splenectomy should be about 10 years of age according to the review of the cases.
